Metamorphic Coffee Table | McIntosh Tristor | Kirkcaldy, Scotland | 1960s
Mid-Century Modern teak coffee table with flip-top, cocktail cabinet, and two nesting tables was designed in the 1960s under the design direction of Tom Robertson for A.H. McIntosh, Kirkcaldy, Scotland.
The set was manufactured 1960-1968 as the original Victoria Road factory was damaged by a hurricane in 1968 then suffered a fire in 1969 or 1971.
The set was designed under the direction of Tom Robertson, who designed for McIntosh in the 1950s then became design director throughout the 1960s. Val Rossi was a designer for McIntosh under Robertson and went on to design for Beithcraft.
The coffee table has a hinged bi-fold top that folds out to create a dining or gaming space.
The left side is fitted with two nesting tables that may be pulled out with ease when needed.
The right end is fitted with a drop-front cocktail cabinet housing one shelf. The cocktail cabinet is also accessible from the top when the lid is rotated at the halfway point.
The furniture labels for McIntosh and their Tristor range are adhered to one inside wall of the cocktail cabinet.
